The Golden Triangle connects Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, three cities a few hours apart that together tell much of north India's story: Mughal emperors, Rajput kings, the British Raj and the modern capital. It is the most popular first trip in India for overseas visitors and NRIs, and it works just as well for families showing grandchildren their history.
Three cities, three moods
Delhi comes first. Old Delhi is a cycle-rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk to Jama Masjid, with paranthas in Paranthe Wali Gali and spice sacks in Khari Baoli. New Delhi is broad and green: India Gate and Kartavya Path, then Humayun's tomb, which inspired the Taj, and the Qutub Minar, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The drive to Agra on the expressway takes about three to four hours. Agra is about the Taj Mahal at sunrise, Agra Fort and Mehtab Bagh at sunset. On the way to Jaipur, Fatehpur Sikri, Akbar's red sandstone capital, and the Chand Baori stepwell at Abhaneri, with thousands of steps in perfect geometry, turn a long drive into two of the trip's highlights.
Jaipur closes the circuit with Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, the City Palace and its bazaars. From there it is about five hours back to Delhi by road, or a short flight onward to Udaipur, Varanasi or Goa if you want to extend.
Who the Golden Triangle suits best
First-time visitors to India, NRI families showing children their heritage and anyone with a week for north India's highlights. It suits all ages with a private car and planned rest.
Where to stay on the Golden Triangle
In Delhi, Connaught Place, Aerocity or South Delhi make the best bases depending on your flight times and plans. In Agra, stay within a short drive of the Taj's east gate for the sunrise visit. In Jaipur, a heritage haveli or palace hotel adds a royal touch to the final nights. We match hotel levels across all three cities.
What to eat
Each city has its own plate. In Delhi, chole bhature, Old Delhi kebabs and butter chicken; in Agra, petha and Mughlai dishes; in Jaipur, dal baati churma and a Rajasthani thali. Street food tours in Chandni Chowk are a great first-day introduction, and we can suggest restaurants with gentler spice for visitors.
Best time to do the Golden Triangle
October to March is ideal across all three cities. December and January mornings can be foggy and cold in Delhi and Agra, so we keep flexible timings. April to June is very hot; summer trips start early and rest at midday.

Golden Triangle trip questions
Can the Golden Triangle be done in 4 days?
Yes, with one night in each city, but it is rushed. Five or six days let you see the Taj at sunrise and enjoy Jaipur.
Train or car?
Gatimaan Express to Agra saves time, but the Agra-Jaipur leg is better by car because of Fatehpur Sikri and Abhaneri on the way.
Can we add Varanasi or Udaipur to the Golden Triangle?
Yes. Udaipur is a short flight or long drive from Jaipur, and Varanasi is an overnight train or quick flight from Agra or Delhi.
